As summer break approached, VUS Super Summer 2024: All Around Vietnam provided an enriching and immersive English program for students aged 6-11. Inspired by Vietnam’s natural beauty and vibrant culture, this distinctive summer program offered students and teachers alike an opportunity to learn, explore, and grow beyond the traditional classroom.
A Summer of Interactive Learning
Over 8 weeks, students engaged in a variety of interactive activities, such as arts and crafts inspired by Vietnam’s regional traditions, cooking local dishes, and cultural dance sessions. These dynamic lessons brought learning to life, allowing students to explore Vietnamese culture in an engaging way. For teachers, the program offered the freedom to create and manage extracurricular activities, enhancing their skills and student engagement.
Preparing for Success
Before the program began, VUS teachers attended a special training session at the Quang Trung and Hoa Binh campuses. This session was more than just preparation—it was an exchange of ideas, where teachers shared their passion for education and discussed creative approaches to teaching. The collaborative atmosphere set the tone for a successful summer, ensuring that both students and teachers were ready for the journey ahead.
Hands-On Experiences Beyond the Classroom
One of the program’s highlights was its emphasis on learning outside the traditional classroom setting. The Great Vietnamese Festival allowed students and teachers to immerse themselves in cultural activities, from role-playing as locals to participating in challenges like the “Salt Carrying Challenge” and a “Treasure Hunt” exploring Vietnam’s scenic wonders.
The Aspiration Bus trip around Saigon and Hanoi gave students a chance to apply their English skills in real-world situations, while teachers observed and developed innovative strategies to make learning memorable. Similarly, the “Test Your English With Foreign Tourists” field trip enabled students to practice English with tourists, providing teachers with insights into the practical application of their lessons.
Immersive Field Trips: Learning Through Exploration
A standout event was the visit to Happy Farm, where students and teachers experienced life as farmers, engaging in activities like planting rice, catching ducks, and paddling boats. This hands-on experience deepened their appreciation for nature and hard work, while also boosting students’ practical knowledge and logical thinking skills.
The program concluded with a 3-day, 2-night adventure at Nam Cat Tien National Park. This immersive trip allowed teachers and students to explore the beauty of nature while strengthening their connections and personal growth. The memories and experiences from this adventure left a lasting impact, embodying the program’s goal of blending education with real-world experiences.
