Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam’s second city and the largest city in Vietnam, with an estimated population of around 13 million people. It is the commercial and financial hub of Vietnam and embodies the entrepreneurial spirit of the country. The city has a vibrant nightlife and street food culture which means it really is a city that never sleeps. Local Attractions
Despite being a great place to live, Ho Chi Minh City is not renowned for its tourist attractions. Despite this, the city does have a number of interesting buildings such as the independence palace and the Notre Dame Cathedral but, as mentioned, the best attractions are the local cafes, restaurants and bars. There are a few attractions just outside the city with the Cu Chi tunnels in the north and the Can Gio Biosphere forest in the south good for a day trip. The Mekong delta is also a car journey away if you’re looking for a weekend trip.
Local Cuisine
Ho Chi Minh City is probably the most multicultural city in Vietnam and, as a result, has a wide range of restaurants and cuisine from many different countries. If you’re looking for Vietnamese food however, its most popular dishes include Pho (rice noodle broth with herbs and beef), Com Tam (broken rice usually served up with a pork chop, egg and pickled vegetables), Banh Mi (small and varied baguette sandwich), Hu Tieu (Cambodian rice noodle soup made with pork stock) and Bun Thit Nuong (cold rice vermicelli noodles topped with grilled pork, herbs and spring rolls).
