Location

Ca Mau_Location_1

Cà Mau city is the capital of Cà Mau Province. Cà Mau is located about 300 km southwest of HCMC. It is the southernmost point of mainland Vietnam.

Convenience and Living Conditions

Cà Mau has a number of smaller supermarkets like WinMart and Bách hóa XANH sprinkled around town.

Cà Mau also has a Vincom Plaza shopping mall. Get out of the heat and into some air conditioning while you run some errands, or catch a movie in the cinema. This is also a good spot to grab some pizza or Korean BBQ.

Hopefully you won’t need medical help, but if you do, pay a visit to Hoan My Minh Hai Hospital, which was established in 2010. This hospital is part of the Hoan My hospital group, which has branches across Vietnam. There are also a number of small pharmacies around the city.

Vietcombank has a couple branches and some ATMs around town, making banking easy and convenient.

Accommodation

Cà Mau has some different options as it is a provincial capital. Some hotels offer monthly contracts.

Daily Transportation

Having your own motorbike might be a good idea for getting around town, as it’s not too large of a city and traffic shouldn’t be too hectic. However, if that’s an adventure that you’re not quite ready for, you can book a Vinasun taxi or order a GrabBike to get around.

Cuisine

Ca Mau has a rich culinary tradition that reflects the region’s diverse natural resources, including rivers, mangroves, and the sea. Here are some popular foods from Ca Mau:

Cá Kho Tộ (Braised Fish in Clay Pot): This is a signature dish in the Mekong Delta region, including Ca Mau. Fish, often catfish, is marinated with a flavorful mixture of fish sauce, sugar, and other seasonings, and then braised in a clay pot until it becomes tender and caramelized.

Ca Mau is renowned for its delicious crab dishes, thanks to its extensive network of rivers, mangroves, and coastal areas, which provide an ideal environment for crab breeding. Here are some crab dishes that you might find in Ca Mau:

Bánh Canh Ghẹ (Crab Noodle Soup): Bánh canh is a type of Vietnamese noodle soup, and in Ca Mau, it’s often prepared with crab meat. The broth is rich and flavorful, and the dish is usually garnished with fresh herbs and sometimes a bit of crab roe for added richness.

Bánh Canh Cua (Crab Thick Noodle Soup): Similar to bánh canh ghẹ, this dish features thick, udon-like noodles and a savory broth made with crab meat. It may also include other ingredients such as quail eggs, pork, and herbs.

Gỏi Cua (Crab Salad): A refreshing salad made with crab meat, herbs, shredded green papaya, and sometimes other vegetables. The dressing typically includes fish sauce, lime juice, and chili, creating a harmonious blend of flavors.

The abundance of crabs in the region contributes significantly to the local cuisine, and visitors to Ca Mau often have the opportunity to savor these delicious crab-based dishes. The use of fresh, locally sourced ingredients ensures that these dishes capture the essence of the region’s coastal flavors.
