A Successful Collaboration
Between A Teacher And A Manager
At The Biggest Educational Event Of The Year

Recently during VUS TESOL Conference 2024, participants witnessed an insightful and practical presentation from two special speakers: William Holland – the lead teacher of VUS Gia Lai and Cao Ngo Thuy Duyen – the Teaching Quality Manager (TQM) also at VUS Gia Lai. Together, a teacher and a manager joined hands to bring their knowledge to the big stage.
As a lead teacher, Mr. William has hosted multiple sharing sessions at his campus in Gia Lai; he even traveled the long distance to VUS Kon Tum to train our teachers there. These small but significant steps, combined with great effort, enabled him to debut as a speaker at the TESOL Conference, fueling his aspiration to inspire and motivate more ESL teachers. William shared some of his thoughts about how it all came to realization:
I think this year's theme about Holism is brilliant, as it's really important to consider everything together for the students in education. That led me to my topic “Teaching with Heart: Direct Personal Passion to the Classroom”. This came about from my desire to share about injecting my own passion to the classroom and pass that fun and positivity onto my students.

At VUS, teachers not only excel in their teaching abilities but also have the capacity to inspire their peers, even at major educational events like the VUS TESOL Conferences. This exemplifies their career development and marks a significant milestone in their professional journey. Additionally, VUS supports its teachers in advancing their careers by encouraging them to take bold steps and facilitating their research, professional development, knowledge exchange, and hosting of workshops.

As shared by Ms. Cao Ngo Thuy Duyen, the TQM at the very campus that William is working at:
Will and I have a common passion in professional development projects; therefore, when Will invited me to join him in his presentation at the Conference, I immediately agreed. One of the most difficult problems was the mis-match in our ideologies, yet with our patient listening, as well as being open to feedback, we managed to come to a mutual agreement about the matter. Thanks to the effort and mutual support, our presentation was a great success.
“I have come a long way from Gia Lai to Ho Chi Minh city just to be here today.” Shared William about his trip. “It was long, but was a great experience thanks to the extra annual leaves and other incentives offered by VUS for their teacher speakers.”
William and Thuy Duyen are notable examples of VUS personnel who have presented at prestigious events like the VUS TESOL Conference. At VUS, we value everyone’s efforts in making significant strides in their careers and are committed to providing them with the best possible support.

This commitment is demonstrated through our international-quality professional development activities such as workshops with partner publishers, campus sharing sessions, and training hub courses with self-paced learning & follow-up mentoring sessions. These foster creativity and personal development, as well as offer our teachers opportunities to learn from experts both locally and globally. All these efforts aim for one ultimate goal: the development of our teachers, thereby enhancing the learning experience for students as we join hands in empowering aspirations.
William’s presentation at the 2024 VUS TESOL Conference was a significant milestone in his teaching journey at VUS, further empowering his career aspirations.
