MAKE THE MOST OF CLASS TIME WITH MR.QUANG’S GAME

Teaching can be a rush with tightly packed lesson plans, and sometimes lessons wrap up quicker than planned due to “fast finishers”. At the VUS Vo Thi Sau – Dong Nai campus, Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang handles this by starting his classes with a game.

“Besides using VUS ready-made lessons, I like to kick off my classes with a fun review using the Word Chain game. It’s a great way to mix things up, reinforce vocabulary, and get students to think creatively and strategically.”

Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang
Here’s how it works:
– Divide the class into 2 teams.
– Each team chooses one representative to play “rock, paper, scissors” to see which team goes first.
– The winning team writes any word on the board.
– The other team writes a word that starts with the last letter of the previous word.
– Each team member must take turns writing on the board. Members of the same team cannot give hints or spell out the words.
– The team with the highest score wins

Scoring is as follows:
– Each valid word earns the team +1 point.
– A word that starts and ends with the same letter earns +2 points.
– A word that fits into the same category as the previous word earns +3 points.
– A word meeting both conditions (a) and (b) earns +5 points

Teachers here have the freedom to get creative and bring their own ideas into teaching, instead of just sticking to the script.

“What I love about my job is getting to use games in my lessons. It’s a fun and dynamic way to reinforce learning while keeping students motivated and engaged. I hope this will help teachers create a classroom atmosphere filled with moments of fun like this.”
