Our Buddy Program pairs our new expat teachers with local VUS Vietnamese teachers or teaching assistants, who act as their personal guide. These buddies have been living and working in the area and are familiar with the local ins and outs.
Mr. Thomas Clarke has recently joined the VUS team as an expat teacher in Kon Tum, one of our new campuses in the central highlands. He mentioned how his VUS Buddy supported him in getting to feel at home in his new town:
“Ms. Blanh was great! I was getting cabin fever in my new hotel, and she took me out on her motorbike and we had a good day. She was very helpful, and also shared some great local restaurants and other entertainment. She also showed me the best ways to get around town. Ms. Blanh gave me a new perspective on my new home and showed me many new places that I didn’t know were there.”

At VUS, numerous workshops are conducted to help our teaching team hone their skills and make strides in their career. VUS welcomes every new member of its family with entrance workshops to aid them in getting used to our teaching methodologies. As reflected by Trong Hieu, a TA at VUS Vinh Long, these training sessions had been a big help for newcomers:
“Unlike my initial expectation about an online setting, VUS’ remote entrance workshops were very informative and interesting thanks to the useful sharings and subtle humor of the presenters. Besides, I also learned a lot from my peers from other provinces like Buon Ma Thuot or Can Tho during group discussions. The workshops have helped me in better understanding my new role, as well as some good ways to manage a class.”

A workplace is not just about working, it is also about building connections between people within it. Understanding this matter, VUS always takes good care of our teaching staff socially by hosting many bonding activities at campuses throughout the year. Whether it’s Tet, Halloween or Christmas, the teaching staff of the VUS family will always have the chance to celebrate holidays together.
Tet holiday is a time for gathering, and at VUS, the atmosphere of Tet gets even cozier when teachers gather at campus and go through a series of Tet activities together. As shared by Ms. Thao My, a teacher at VUS Nguyen Duy Trinh: “Last year’s Tet was very memorable. When we went to the teacher’s lounge, we saw everyone including Vietnamese teachers, expat teachers, TC staff and TQM in colorful ao dai. We then had a meal, took photos and chatted together. It’s great to enjoy the atmosphere of traditional Tet within the campus with my colleagues.”

Oh Halloween! The fun, the laugh, the costumes… All that, packed in a Halloween event at VUS! Mr. Minh Quang, a teacher at VUS Dong Nai – Vo Thi Sau calls it “the most impressive one yet”:
“All the staff members, teachers, teaching assistants and students joined hands in putting on costumes and decorating the campus. This both beautified our campus, as well as strengthened the bonds between every individual.”

“I love Christmas parties as I can create and enjoy different games to be closer to other colleagues as we don’t usually work together. Most of our time, we focus solely on preparing lesson plans beside the class time so the connection is not there. But thanks to the event, I am able to better understand my colleagues and truly feel what a bonding and healthy working relationship can be like.”
