VUS Workshop: “Speak Up, Join In – Collaborative Tasks for a Happier Classroom”

At VUS, ongoing professional development is an essential part of our teaching culture. The workshop “Speak Up, Join In – Collaborative Tasks for a Happier Classroom” continued this commitment, offering teaching staff a space to exchange ideas, refresh their techniques, and strengthen their instructional approaches.

Originally presented at the VUS TESOL Conference 2025 – a community event open to anyone passionate about education-the session was brought back to the campuses so that teachers who could not attend TESOL, or who missed this particular presentation, could still benefit from its practical insights.

The workshop was hosted at VUS Cong Hoa and VUS Ut Tich, ensuring that more teachers across the system had the opportunity to join.

Exploring collaborative tasks – practical ideas for the classroom

Guided by Ms. Vi Xuan (Lead Teacher), the workshop introduced a set of practical, easy-to-adapt collaborative activities designed to help teachers:

  • Strengthen peer interaction
  • Encourage natural participation
  • Build enjoyable and productive learning moments

Drawing on her experience developing student-centered lessons across various levels, Ms. Vi demonstrated how small, intentional adjustments can make collaborative tasks both manageable and impactful. Teachers appreciated how the techniques could be applied immediately, regardless of age group or syllabus.

Meaningful conversations and professional connections

The workshop naturally became a comfortable space for teachers to open up about their teaching. They talked through the challenges they often face in class, shared small strategies that have worked for them, and exchanged examples from their day-to-day lessons. Some teachers even tested a few collaborative task ideas together and discussed how they might adapt them for different student levels.

Instead of focusing on structured activities, the session found its energy in the conversations that unfolded naturally between teachers-a simple but meaningful kind of exchange that often sparks new ideas and renewed confidence.

A continuous professional journey at VUS

As the session unfolded, what stood out most was not only the ideas shared, but the sense of professional connection it created. Teachers had the space to listen, question, reflect, and build on one another’s experiences-something essential in a dynamic teaching environment.

Rather than emphasizing isolated techniques, the workshop reinforced a broader message: professional growth flourishes when teachers share, question, and learn together.

This commitment to continuous development is a long-standing part of the VUS teaching culture-where every workshop, no matter its size, contributes to building stronger, more confident, and more inspired teaching staff.
