VUS Teachers’ Stories: Teach – Inspire – Thrive

At VUS, teaching goes beyond the classroom – it’s an experience supported by strong foundations and continuous learning. With modern facilities, a dedicated academic support system, and regular professional workshops, teachers and teaching assistants (TAs) are given opportunities to thrive.

What makes VUS special isn’t just its scale, but the way it turns every teacher’s growth into a shared mission of excellence.

Learning, Sharing, Growing - The VUS Way of Empowering Teachers

Progress doesn’t happen alone – it begins with every shared moment – a question asked, a story exchanged, a workshop that sparks new ideas. Together, these moments shape teachers who never stop learning or inspiring others to do the same.

To Mr. Kevin James Moore, what sets VUS apart is its strong commitment to professional development – from the quality of its training programs and academic support teams to the modern, innovative classroom environment that empowers teachers to keep evolving.

“The Training Quality Manager (TQM) and the Human Resources Teachers department are well-spoken, and the senior teachers understand TESOL methodology to engage students. The training program at VUS is one of the best programs I have seen in my fifteen years of teaching experience The VUS campus reminds me of American-style private centers in the USA. It opens the classroom up for more games and activities with body language, TPR, flashcards and toys. Overall, everything is excellent and the experience is easy-going for new teachers. VUS is awesome, and I’m thrilled to be a part of this team for a long-lasting relationship.”

Mr. Kevin’s story is one of many that reflect how growth at VUS extends beyond experience. That same spirit of learning also shines through in the journeys of teaching assistants like Ms. Nguyen Phuong Thao, who found both confidence and purpose through VUS’s workshops and mentorship.

“I have had the opportunity to participate in many different workshops such as Classroom Management or Customer Service Mindset workshops. When I started working as a teaching assistant, because I didn’t have any experience related to this job, I still had difficulty getting the children to be obedient because I did not understand the students very well. However, after participating in training sessions at VUS, I was instructed on how to analyze students’ psychology and how to effectively communicate with them. Being able to accompany the students from the beginning to the end of the course to see their progress in learning and in daily life skills is my biggest joy in this job.”

Ms. Nguyen Phuong Thao

Just as Ms. Thao found her rhythm through hands-on training, others have discovered new perspectives from learning alongside peers across campuses. To Mr. Ho Trong Hieu, what stood out most wasn’t only the lessons, but the shared humor and energy that made each session memorable:

“Unlike my initial expectation about an online setting, VUS’ remote entrance workshops were very informative and interesting thanks to the useful sharings and subtle humor of the presenters. Besides, I also learned a lot from my peers from other provinces like Buon Ma Thuot or Can Tho during group discussions. The workshops have helped me in better understanding my new role, as well as some good ways to manage a class.”

A workshop may last only a few hours, but its lessons echo far longer – shaping skills, mindset, and everyday interactions across classrooms and campuses.

Tech-Ready, People-Centered: The VUS Teaching Environment

Every aspect of teaching at VUS – from technology to academic support – is designed to make lessons smoother and more engaging. It’s where careful preparation transforms into creative teaching, something Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Thuy Trang experiences every day in her classroom:

“When teaching at VUS, I don’t need to bring my personal laptop because teachers can easily view and prepare lessons right on the school’s portal system. With classrooms always equipped with computers, teachers only need to log in and can teach right away. Not only before each lesson, VUS also supports teachers very enthusiastically before each new program. Currently I am teaching Kids - Teen and Adults levels. Before teaching these levels, I was always guided by the Teaching Quality Manager (TQM) about the curriculum and programs of each level, so that I could work more conveniently and effectively.”

But support at VUS goes beyond systems and tools – it lives in the people themselves, in the way colleagues guide, care for, and help each other settle in. Through the Buddy Program, every expatriate teacher is paired with a local Vietnamese colleague who shows them the city, shares local life, and makes a new place feel like home. That’s how Mr. Thomas Clarke found comfort and connection during his first days in Kon Tum:

My Buddy was great! I was getting cabin fever in my new hotel, and she took me out on her motorbike and we had a good day. She was very helpful, and also shared some great local restaurants and other entertainment. She also showed me the best ways to get around town. Ms. Blanh gave me a new perspective on my new home and showed me many new places that I didn’t know were there.”

Beyond structured programs, there’s a quieter kind of care – found in the everyday gestures that bring colleagues closer, from a shared laugh to a helping hand after class. And as that warmth spreads, it reaches the classroom too – where teachers see their efforts reflected in familiar faces, in memories that last, and in the simple joy of being remembered.

“As for students at VUS, it’s very nice to have students remember you after a long time. There was one student in an IELTS class that I taught. She was surprised to see me on the first day at class because I used to teach her when she first started at VUS. I was her first teacher at VUS and surprisingly, I was also her last teacher at VUS.”

Every bit of guidance, every moment of care, and every shared laugh brings VUS teachers closer together – building not only stronger classrooms but stronger bonds. And it’s within those bonds, across campuses and celebrations, that the true heart of VUS shines brightest.

Where Bonding Events Become a Memory to Cherish

What makes life at VUS truly special isn’t just what happens in classrooms, but what happens when the entire community comes together. From the heartfelt warmth of Tet to the creative chaos of Halloween, every celebration tells a story – one of shared laughter, teamwork, and belonging.

To teachers like Ms. Thao Vy, Tet is more than just a holiday – it’s a time when the campus feels like home, filled with warmth, gratitude, and togetherness:

“Last year’s Tet was very memorable. When we went to the teacher’s lounge, we saw everyone including Vietnamese teachers, expat teachers, TC staff and TQM in colorful ao dai. We then had a meal, took photos and chatted together. It’s great to enjoy the atmosphere of traditional Tet within the campus with my colleagues.”

Ms. Tran Thao Vy

If Tet brings gentle warmth, then Halloween brings a different kind of magic – one that sparks creativity, teamwork, and pure fun across the campus. For Mr. Minh Quang, last year’s celebration was one of those unforgettable moments that turned laughter into lasting connection:

“Oh Halloween! The fun, the laugh, the costumes…All the staff members, teachers, teaching assistants and students joined hands in putting on costumes and decorating the campus. This both beautified our campus, as well as strengthened the bonds between every individual.”

For Mr. Richard McMillan, those conversations and bursts of laughter turn the campus into more than a workplace – a place where friendships grow alongside lessons.

“I really enjoy the bonding activities at my campus, and I think a lot of people do enjoy them as well. There have been more activities for employees at the campus, we have more chances to get around to talk and share about everything.”

Mr. Richard McMillan

Moments like Tet, Halloween and other bonding events may come and go, but their warmth remains – in the laughter that echoes through hallways, in the friendships that quietly grow, and in the feeling that every teacher belongs to something bigger than themselves. It’s in those lingering connections that the true heart of VUS continues to shine.

Each chapter of life at VUS tells the story of people who teach with passion, grow with purpose, and stand together through challenges. Because here, success is never a solo journey – it’s a story written together, one lesson and one connection at a time.
