TO THE DADS WHO GROW MINDS AT SCHOOL AND HEARTS AT HOME

šŸ’ This Father’s Day, let’s honor the incredible men at VUS, those who take on two important roles at the same time — as teachers and as fathers.

šŸ‘Øā€šŸ« Balancing life in the classroom with life at home is no small feat. From educating young minds to nurturing their own children, our male teachers show up every day with strength, heart, and dedication. They make it look effortless — and we’re proud to honor them today.

WHAT WAS OUR TEACHER'S MESSAGE ABOUT FATHER'S DAY?

Meet Mr. Etienne Le Roux—one of VUS’ dedicated teacher-dads. With over three years of teaching at VUS and seven years of fatherhood, he’s been on a meaningful journey of growth both in the classroom and at home. Along the way, he’s picked up some thoughtful tips on how to balance these two important roles.

ā€œBeing both a father and a teacher is a demanding yet incredibly rewarding journey. One of the greatest challenges is the struggle to balance time and emotional energy. Both roles can be draining and time-consuming.

However, the greatest joy comes from the fulfillment of nurturing growth, whether it’s witnessing your own child’s milestones or seeing a student grasp a new concept.

The unique opportunity to shape young minds and leave a lasting positive impact, along with the love and connection found in both roles, ultimately makes this dual path truly enriching, despite its inherent challenges.

In walking this path, I’ve come to realize just how important it is not to take your core group of family for granted. They are often the quiet supporters behind the scenes, providing the flexibility and emotional strength we need to thrive in all areas of life. Always remember to cherish and love them deeply—they are truly a blessing.ā€

Originally from California, Jay has been part of the VUS teaching family for thirteen years—and a devoted father for eight. Balancing life in the classroom and at home, he finds joy in the everyday moments of watching his child grow. For Jay, being a teacher and a dad are two of life’s greatest roles—and sometimes, they come together in ways that are truly unforgettable.

ā€œBeing able to witness each step they take as they get older is a blessing. From the moments of watching them crawl for the first time to taking their first steps brings a warmth to my soul. Just watching them grow each day brings happiness and joy to my life and it’s a feeling like no other.

A special moment where both of my roles came into play was a few weeks ago. My son has been going to VUS for a few years now, and I’ve never been a teacher in his classes, since I didn’t want to make it awkward for him to study and see me in front of the classroom.

But this time, I got scheduled to teach his class—so I accepted and went with the flow.

It turned out to be a special moment, because I was able to teach him as a teacher, but also see him as a father. It brought together both of my passions in the most natural way. It was a great moment for both of us—one I’ll always remember.ā€
