4 Simple Steps Checklist for a Successful Interview
1) Check Your Tech Gear and Connection
Before the interview, test your webcam and microphone using the appropriate app (e.g., Microsoft Teams) to ensure good video quality and clear audio. Don’t forget to check that your battery will last the entire interview and plug in your device if needed.
Note: Prioritize using a laptop or desktop computer for online interviews. Other devices, such as tablets or phones may limit your operational capabilities and have smaller screens, making it difficult to see details clearly.
You should check your internet speed first. If it’s unstable, consider connecting directly to your router using an Ethernet cable for an even more stable connection, rather than relying solely on Wi-Fi.
Also, avoid using public Wi-Fi (like in schools or coffee shops) as it’s often unstable due to many users connecting at once.
💡 Tip: Prepare a 3G/4G hotspot as a backup. This ensures that if your primary internet connection unfortunately has trouble, you can still attend the interview.
2) Arrange a Bright and Distraction-Free Background
Make sure your face is well-lit from the front (not behind) your webcam. Choose a plain and professional background, such as a white wall, a bookcase, or utilize the virtual background templates available on the platform.
